And when I say that it stinks, I mean it literally stinks! Like "peewee, what is that smell?"
Oh wait, its me... and now I want to cry because I'm just now realizing it and i've already been to the grocery store, dropped off my older kids at school and had a long conversation with the principal in this outfit. Why!?!?!
It seems like it doesn't matter how much you scrub, what type of soap you use, or how many showers you have each day. The stench never goes away! Maybe for a minute or two if you're lucky but, otherwise, it's a struggle.
So what's a mom to do? Suffer through it and reapply our deodorant 15 times a day? Possibly. I recently started looking into other methods to fix this issue and I want to share a few with you!
1 . Natural Deodorant: If you are involved in any way in the crunchy moms groups in your area or even just moms groups in general, you may have heard about natural deodorant. This is a non anti-persperant/ deodorant only alternative that doesn't have aluminum in it which in turn wont clog your pores. This seemed like common sense to me because the stench is from hormonal changes in your body after you have a baby. So if the smell is coming from inside out, it obviously needs to get OUT. If we clog up our pores with aluminum, theres no way for it to get out, right? Maybe it's just me but this made sense. The problem is that it can take a long time for your body to detox the stink. So what's next?
2. Hibiclens: My doctor recommended using a hibiclens two or three times a week to really get rid of the bacteria that lives underneath your arms. I can't like, I was a little nervous at first but I'm amazed at how long I can go without stinking! Like almost a full day! Its easy to use and you can get it over the counter at any pharmacist. Just make sure to talk to your doctor before using.
3. Armpit detox!: What in the world is an armpit detox? I had this suggested to me in a moms group and I decided to give it a try! So far so goo. This is the recipe I used and it kind of makes me feel like i'm at a spa!
4. Drink water: Drinking water is the best way to detox your body! If you aren't drinking water, you aren't using the easiest resource that we have. A hydrated body is a happy body in so many ways.
So there ya have it. Give it a try a see what you think. I'm still in the middle of this little experiment but so far so good. I haven't smelled nearly as bad as I did with my second child and I'm actually quite liking the natural deodorant! Do you have any more proven ways to get rid of that postpartum stink? Drop them in the comments! We'd love to hear from you.
