The single best device that I've ever used as a breast feeding mother.
I have never been a fan of pumping. Its uncomfortable, takes a lot of clean up and I'm just not a huge fan. If it was up to me, I would never pump. Unfortunately, life doesn't always work that way and having a small stash of breastmilk can be life saving sometimes! So what's a mom to do?
In comes the haakaa. I was skeptical at first because it looks way too simple. But then, I remembered how often my breast pad would be completely soaked through after a feeding. There had to be something to it!
At first I simply placed it over the breast that wasn't occupied by the scavenger that I gave birth to. That would usually get me 1- 1.5 oz during each feed. Then I tried suctioning it on and I would often get 2 oz per feed on that side!
I am, by no means, an overproducer. I noticed when I would use the haakaa, my baby was usually hungry about a half hour before I thought he would be but since nursing on demand is how we boost our supply, I would just nurse him when he was ready. I also always nurse on both sides before baby is satisfied and I found with the haakaa, he may nurse a few more minutes from the side that I used it on before being satiated. This type of behavior is no different had I pumped after or before a feeding but thankfully is a little less extreme because milk has only been taken from one side.
My baby is currently 12 weeks old. I used the haakaa once or twice a week for the first 5 weeks of his life and then upped it to once a day when he started sleeping through the night. I currently have 50 oz of breastmilk in my freezer waiting to be used at the drop of a hat! What a huge blessing the haakaa is! My stress over leaving my baby with a sitter, going to work or hitting a growth spurt, have pretty much ceased to exist. This amazing little silicone breast "cup" is beyond anything I could have hoped for!
So, if you are thinking about breast feeding, currently breastfeeding or planning on breastfeeding, go order the haakaa right now and find your way to breastfeeding peace as you plan ahead for your babies needs!
